Reading Ahead: July 2016, part 4

Need an easy read this summer? Something juicy or gossipy to throw in your beach bag? Read on--there are some great options on the way!

Magic, by Danielle Steel. It starts on a summer evening, with the kind of magic found only in Paris. Once a year in the City of Light, a lavish dinner takes place outside a spectacular landmark—the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame . . . a new setting each time. Selected by secret invitation, the guests arrive dressed in white, with tables and chairs, white linens, flowers, fine china, sparkling crystal, and an elegant dinner. As the sun sets, thousands of candles are lit. And when the night is over, hundreds of white paper lanterns, each with a flame within, bearing everyone’s fervent wishes, are released into the sky. Amid this wondrous White Dinner, a group of close friends stands at the cusp of change, and readers follow them through the following year of successes and heartbreaks, until the next White Dinner occurs. Fans, be aware, Steel has another book coming out in August, too (Rushing Waters, on order), so pace yourselves accordingly!

Daughters of the Bride, by Susan Mallery. Three sisters come together as their mother gets remarried, each with secrets that the forced togetherness will surely uncover. Courtney has always been the awkward one, but she lives a whole secret life her family knows nothing about. Free-spirited Sienna has no interest in settling down, and has two broken engagements to prove it--but when her boyfriend proposes, will the third time be the charm? And Rachel, the cynic, thought love would last forever...right up until her divorce. But as her mother's wedding draws closer and Rachel's ex begs for a second chance, she must take a closer look at why her marriage failed, and decide whether the second time around is worth taking a leap of faith.

The Singles Game, by Lauren Weisberger. Weisberger is best known for her wildly successful novel The Devil Wears Prada. In her new novel, a devil of a different stripe makes an appearance. When America’s sweetheart, Charlotte “Charlie” Silver, makes a pact with the devil—the infamously brutal tennis coach Todd Feltner—she finds herself catapulted into a world of celebrity stylists, private parties, charity matches aboard mega-yachts, and secret dates with Hollywood royalty. Under Todd’s new ruthless regime, Charlie the good girl is out. Todd wants “Warrior Princess” Charlie all the way. After all, no one ever wins big by playing nice.
Celebrity mags and gossip blogs go wild for Charlie as she jets around the globe chasing Grand Slam titles and Page Six headlines. But as the Warrior Princess’s star rises on and off the court, it comes at a cost. In a world obsessed with good looks and hot shots, is Charlie Silver willing to lose herself to win it all?
